Do not say, “I told you so.”

Do not say, “I told you so.”
words written in captivity - 03
: written on behalf of those suffering a loss or disappointment

Do not say, “I told you so.”
Hold your breath.

Don’t say, “Things could have been better off if only you did so and so.”

We don’t want to hear what to you seem like well-meaning words.
Words that to us are just needles and blades prickling our sides and stabbing our chests.

알아.
Oftentimes we already know.
Or we’ve already beat ourselves up about it even without your help.

Hold your breath.
그만해라.

Instead, tell us, “This is just a bump in the road.”
Tell us, “It’s going to be okay.”
Give us a hand to hold and a shoulder to cry on.
Warmth and touch, if just for this moment.

More than the pep talks that condemn us to our core
Just be there.

Be there.

Even in the awkward silence;
Even in between cries of pain and anguish,
Or the soft moan and whimpers.
Just being there would be enough.
That would be enough.
It would be enough.
